Rescue Fellowship Church History
In February 2006 at 7 pm, a meeting was held in the home of Rev. Derrick and Deborah Smith to share the vision God gave him.
The meeting was called to order singing “Pass Me Not”. Scripture and prayer were given by Robert Richardson and the floor was given to Rev. Smith.
Rev. Smith took the floor and shared the vision God gave him to organize a church. “New Generation Praise and Worship Center Ministries” was chosen as the name of the church. Rev. Smith taught from Psalms 127:1 “Except the Lord build the house”.
Brother Robert Richardson made a motion that Rev Derrick Smith would be the founding pastor of New Generation Praise & Worship Center. The motion was seconded by Sister Michelle McQueen.
The first service was held in the home of Pastor Derrick and Deborah Smith located at 12525 Laurel Haven Way. Pastor Smith preached “We shall not be moved”. Eight people united with the church body that day. After several weeks of service, the church moved to Victory Mt. Bethel BC located at Eastex Freeway. Will Davis served as our 1st musician. The Lord continued to bless New Generation.
In 2007, the Lord blessed New Generation with its own building at 12714 North Freeway. Teresa Casey served as Musician. Men, Women, Youth and Sunday School ministries were organized. The church continued to grow by the grace of God. During that time, Pastor Smith served as Senior Pastor of New Generation and Interim Pastor of Berea MBC.
Pastor Smith was called to pastor Berea MBC located at 11507 Homestead after much prayer. Pastor Smith merged both churches. Christopher Ballou was the first minister to be licensed under Pastor Smith.
In 2011, Pastor Smith re-organized New Generation with over 150 members. Re-organization was held in the sanctuary of First Morning Star BC with Pastor Carl E. Isaac and Pastor Dotson
serving as moderator. $750 was collected on that night. Bishop Elve Livingston opened his doors for New Generation to have church.
In 2013, Makeitha Johnson was licensed to preach under Pastor Smith. New Generation was moved to 2412 Dalview in Acres Home. The power of God moved, and the name of the church was changed to Rescue Fellowship Church of Houston. In 2020, the pandemic hit the nation and in person church was closed.
In 2021, Pastor Smith moved to reopen the church. A building was found at 6020 Upshaw. Chairs were purchased and a sound system was bought. The Lord added to the church as He saw fit. Oliver Washington was licensed to preach under Pastor Smith. The power of God was in the place, and the church outgrew that location.
In 2022, Rescue Fellowship Church moved to 14000 Chrisman. After two years at this location, God has opened the window and poured us out a blessing. We will move into our own building at 10912 Wallisville in July 2024. Eyes have not seen; ears have not heard the good things God has in store. I Corinthians 2:9.
